The Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES) invites and welcomes donations in support of our center's many activities. We are enormously grateful for the generosity of donors who support academic study of the Middle East and outreach activities that foster greater public understanding of Middle Eastern cultures, histories, and societies.
Individual and corporate donors may choose to make general contributions in support of CMES activities, donate in support of existing funds, or designate a particular realm of CMES' work to support. For example, one donor has created a bequest to support activities that enhance understanding of Middle Eastern women's lives; a corporation has contributed in support of outreach activities. One can endow a named lectureship or professorship in an area of particular interest in Middle Eastern studies, support an annual cultural event, or create a student fellowship.
To discuss possible support for CMES, please feel free to contact the Center's director, Anne H. Betteridge (phone 520-621-5456). We will be pleased to hear from you and to work with you to ensure that your contribution supports the activity of greatest interest to you.
Lisa Adeli Middle East Fund
This Fund is established in tribute to Dr. Lisa Adeli who passed away in December 2020. She was the highly successful CMES Director of Educational Outreach for over 10 years. Funds will be used to recognize and support excellence in Middle East Studies outreach activities. Funds may be awarded to students and/or educators for the purchase of educational materials, conference participation, lesson plan competitions, or other activities that will encourage, support, and enhance studies of the Middle East.
Outreach Scholars Program
The University of Arizona's Center for Middle Eastern Studies (CMES) has established Outreach Scholarships at the UA, awarded in the amount of $250 to selected undergraduate and graduate students. Student awardees typically have in-depth and personal experience in the Middle East and are eager to share their knowledge and expertise with the public.
Outreach scholars participate in two speaking engagements in response to requests from community groups, such as service organizations, religious groups, local government organizations, and schools, and in programs organized by CMES.
Contributions in support of the Outreach Scholars Program should be made payable to "UA Foundation/CMES," with `Outreach Scholars Program' noted on the check's memo line.
Student Internships
CMES raises funds to facilitate UA student participation in unpaid or partially supported Middle East studies-related internships in the US and abroad. Awards of up to $2,000 each enable student involvement in summer and academic year internships.
Contributions in support of student internships should be made payable to "UA Foundation/CMES," with `Student Internships' noted on the check's memo line.
