In response to events happening in Afghanistan and Iran, the University of Arizona's Center for Middle Eastern Studies has partnered with local Afghan and Iranian Tucson communities to bring two Middle Eastern scholars to discuss women's rights and share their lived experiences in Afghanistan and Iran. Fatemeh Shams, an Associate Professor of Persian Literature at UPenn will discuss Iranian women’s perspectives at this event. Muqaddesa Yourish, a former deputy minister for commerce and industry of the previous government of Afghanistan, who joined the George Washington University community as the Elliott School of International Affairs’ J.B. and Maurice C. Shapiro Professor of International Affairs in January 2022, will discuss the Afghan women's perspectives.
