When
Thanks to generous support from the Arizona Humanities Council, CMES was pleased to offer a summer institute for teachers' (K-12, pre-service, and college faculty) and a separate institute for high school sophomores and juniors which took place July 9-16, 2010. Sessions were conducted on various topics concerning the Middle East. These included sessions on modern Middle Eastern history, geography, literature, women’s issues, art, culture, religion, and languages.Participants were able to choose between beginning and advanced sessions. Evening activities included movie screenings, musical performances, dance instruction, and other cultural events. The institute was brought to an end with a closing reception and student presentations on topics of their choice about the Middle East. Teachers created lesson plans from what they learned in the daily sessions and their lesson plans were added to the CMES Lesson Plan Archive.
