Teaching about the Middle East (NES 597A), a University of Arizona online class
Do you want to teach more about the Middle East but don't know how to do it? Are you looking for a PRACTICAL graduate-level class that is totally online? If you have answered yes to any of the above questions, then maybe the following class, which I have just developed and will be teaching during the fall semester, will interest you.
NES 597A, "Teaching about the Middle East," is offered by the University of Arizona for 3 graduate credits (in Middle Eastern and North African Studies). It is a project-based course that is designed to provide practical assistance to teachers who are planning to develop and teach a Middle East Studies course at their school OR who wish to add more Middle East content to an already existing Social Studies, English, or Fine Arts class. Educators taking this course will do assignments, choose readings, and create projects related to the grade level and content area that they teach. The class is completely online, giving you the flexibility to work wherever, whenever you can.
About the instructor: Lisa Adeli is a high school English and Social Studies teacher with 12 years of full-time teaching experience. Besides a teaching certification, she has a PhD in History and a master's in Teaching English As a Second Language. She currently works as the Outreach Coordinator for the University of Arizona Center for Middle Eastern Studies, where she develops programs and materials for educators. Because she loves being a teacher, she will soon begin her fourth year volunteer-teaching a class at a local high school.
- If you are interested in registering for this course:
Current University of Arizona graduate students simply register through UA Access: www.arizona.edu/students/registering-classes.
Other educators need to apply first to the UA as a non-degree-seeking GRADUATE student and can then register for the course.
--Cost: The cost is the usual U of A charge for a 3-credit graduate course, which means $2322 for Arizona residents; $4344 for non-residents.
