Arizona faculty, staff, students, and community members engage with global human rights, national civic rights, and local community issues everyday as they sit on the frontlines of political hyperbole surrounding controversial issues.  This Maricopa Increasing Global Awareness (MIGA) Series is intended to provide MCCCD faculty, staff, students and community members with up-to-the minute and fact-based information about the on-going situation with Islam and Muslims in the US, so they may engage students, peers, co-workers, and family members factually and objectively in the classroom, workspace, and community.  The MIGA Series brings together scholarship, pedagogy, oral history, and myth-busting to form the fact-based content that is necessary for faculty, staff, students, and community members to have when infusing current issues into their respective classrooms, workspaces, and neighborhoods. The Series and this theme serves as a means for participants to consider multiple and often opposing viewpoints, so all of members of our Maricopa community are able to make informed decisions about their status and role as a global citizen.

These events support the Global Engagement Mission of the Maricopa Community Colleges Governing Board related to providing student global learning opportunities that stem from courses infused with global perspectives.
