On Friday, March 11 at 7:00 PM, The Good Shepherd United Church of Christ will host a panel of Muslims from the Muslim Community Center of Tucson. They will present a program titled Islam and the Muslims. The presenters include: Watheq Al-Obeidy, Imam of the Center; Dr. Fayez Swailem, member of the Board of Trustees; Rula Khalidi, Interfaith Coordinator at the Center; and Mohyeddin Abdulaziz,Palestinian American and interfaith, human rights, and peace and justice activist. They will speak about the religion of Islam, the presence of Muslims in the world, issues of our time (women, culture, youth, Shari’a Law, etc.) and political Islam. They will then be happy to answer everyone’s questions. In this age of increasing Islamophobia, it is especially important for us who are not Muslim to learn who Muslims are, what they believe, and what their core values are. The purpose of this presentation is an educational one, an opportunity to learn from our Muslim neighbors. They are pleased to share their beliefs with us and to correct misinformation and stereotyping. This presentation is open to the community. The Good Shepherd Church is located at 17750 S.
