Even before the terrorism of 9/11 and the economic crash of 2008, Americans had a sense of the 1990's as a golden age.  The  Soviet Union had fallen.  The stock market was booming.  And with their first baby boomer president, the rise fo the Internet, and the spread of mass media, Americans were having fun.  Yet, underlying these good times were serious issues that went unaddressed, letting serious problems fester.  This lecture will look back at Bill and Hillary Clinton's 1990s, seeing the strengths and weaknesses of the times culturally and politically for Americans.  The lecture will then broaden in scope geographically, looking at Israel's own Golden Age of Oslo peace and Start-up prosperity -- assessing the strengths and weaknesses there.  Finally, the lecture will assess how events in America and Israel affected American Jews, leading to new forms of Jewish identity, new programs -- and certain continuing concerns. 

This lecture will begin at 7 P.M. and will take place at the Tucson Jewish Community Center located at 3800 East River Road.
