Proposed Federal Budget Eliminates International Education

The White House's proposed Federal budget calls for the complete ELIMINATION of international education and foreign language programs at the US Department of Education (p.27). The Center for Middle Eastern Studies is a US Department of Education Title VI National Resource Center and Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship-granting institution. Both of these programs, and others including Fulbright-Hays, would no longer exist if this budget is passed. We will be releasing a statement in the near future in response to the justification claims in the proposal.
