Dr. Baglan Mizamkhan is the head of the Department of Translation at Kazakh Ablai Khan University of International Relations and World Languages in Almaty, Kazakhstan. She is here at the University of Arizona as a visiting Fulbright scholar.

This lecture will explore the Kazakh language from various perspectives, including its origins when Turkic languages started splitting up into different language groups, what the word “Kazakh” means, borrowings from Arabic and Persian languages, and ending with an overview of the present condition of the Kazakh Language.
